CLI and MCP stdio

The agent-memory command and the 13 tools of its MCP stdio server, for agents on the same computer.

Agents on the same computer talk to Agent Memory through the agent-memory command or its MCP stdio server. Neither opens a network port.

Common commands

Command	What it does
`agent-memory health --json`	Check that the local database opens.
`agent-memory search --q "<query>" --limit 5`	Search.
`agent-memory sessions detail --id "<session-id>"`	Show a session and its messages.
`agent-memory hooks status`	Show each hook and whether it is on.
`agent-memory hooks enable <hook>`	Turn a hook on. Use `disable` to turn it off.
`agent-memory model prepare`	Download the local embedding model.
`agent-memory ingest progress`	Show capture progress and errors.
`agent-memory ingest deferred`	List files set aside after repeated failures.
`agent-memory cloud login`	Sign in to the cloud.
`agent-memory cloud health`	Check sign-in and API access.
`agent-memory cloud sources`	List raw sessions you can restore with `cloud restore`.

On the Mac, if the command isn't on your PATH, use the copy inside the app:

MCP stdio server

On the Mac the server is the agent-memory-mcp executable from the command-line tools. On Windows, run agent-memory mcp. Both expose the same 13 tools.

The 13 tools

Tool	What it does
`memory_search`	Search captured session messages, optionally by workspace.
`memory_sync`	Fetch incremental changes for an agent.
`memory_get_context`	Fetch the startup context for an agent.
`memory_get_inbox`	Fetch pending inbox messages for an agent.
`memory_update_state`	Set an agent's current status, workspace and task.
`memory_send_message`	Send a message to another agent's inbox.
`memory_log_event`	Record an event, such as a checkpoint.
`memory_create_feedback_event`	Record how you reacted to an agent's output.
`memory_list_feedback_events`	List feedback events.
`memory_create_decision_review`	Record a later review and detect a reversed verdict.
`memory_list_decision_reviews`	List decision reviews.
`memory_create_preference_pair`	Record an accepted and a rejected output.
`memory_list_preference_pairs`	List preference pairs.
